Safety in Play
playPROMPTS are designed to make playing with your children easier, more achievable and much more fun.
Our cards provide activity inspiration for parents and carers rather than toys intended to be handed to a child for unsupervised use.
Grown-ups are in charge
All playPROMPTS activities should be carried out with appropriate adult supervision.
You know your child best. Please use your own judgement to decide whether an activity, resource or level of supervision is suitable for your child's individual age, abilities and stage of development.
The suggested age ranges on our products are a guide and don't replace parental or carer judgement.
Check before you play
Before starting an activity, please check that all materials and resources are safe and appropriate for the child taking part.
Take particular care with activities involving things such as:
small parts, food, water, scissors or craft materials, natural materials, household objects, messy or sensory materials and potential allergens.
Some everyday objects suggested for play may not themselves be toys and therefore may require particularly close adult supervision.
Never leave babies or young children unattended with items that could present a choking, strangulation, suffocation or other safety risk.
Food and allergies
Where an activity uses food or ingredients, please check for allergies and dietary requirements before use.
Unless an activity specifically says otherwise, materials suggested for sensory or creative play shouldn't automatically be assumed to be suitable for eating.
Adapt it!
One of the best things about play is that there isn't one perfect way to do it.
Please adapt activities to suit your child, your home, the resources available to you and your circumstances.
If something doesn't feel appropriate for your child, skip it and flick to another playPROMPT.
